Google AI Edge Foresight: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Google AI Edge Foresight is an experimental meeting companion for the Mac. The app listens through the microphone and system audio, so it works with any meeting platform, in video calls and in person. During a meeting you type short bullet points, and the app expands them into fuller notes using the live transcript. Foresight also detects questions raised in the conversation and answers them from a personal knowledge base of documents, images, transcripts and notes, including local files and Google Drive. It runs on Gemma 4 and EmbeddingGemma 2 and is a macOS download on Google's developer site.

Foresight is made by Google, a US company. According to Google, transcript and audio processing takes place entirely on the device, and the app also works without an internet connection, so no cloud subscription is needed. Google calls the app experimental. The app is not documented as open source; only the EmbeddingGemma 2 model is published under the Apache 2.0 licence. Anyone who connects Google Drive brings data from that cloud service into the app.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Google AI Edge Foresight

Google AI Edge Foresight is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Google AI Edge Foresight runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

Google AI Edge Foresight is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Google AI Edge Foresight together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
