Assently: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Assently is an electronic signature and e-identification service for organisations. The Verified website describes its eSign and eID offering as including Nordic electronic IDs, a passport reader, touchscreen signatures and SMS verification. The service is reached through a web login. Verified also sells tools for AML and KYC checks, contract management, due diligence and supplier assessment, and presents Assently as part of its product range.

The Assently product page describes the company as headquartered in Sweden and states that Assently is part of Verified. Verified's website lists staff in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Romania, but it does not state its legal entity, registered seat or data-hosting location. A trade report from April 2023 says the growth investor Verdane acquired a majority stake in Verified. The website does not document Assently's data-centre location, open-source status or GDPR terms, so European organisations should ask the provider for its data processing agreement and hosting details.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Assently

Assently is headquartered in SE and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Assently scores best on data residency.

Assently is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Assently together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
