AWS End User Messaging SMS is the Amazon Web Services service for sending and receiving SMS text messages, alongside voice messages. Organisations use it for one-time passwords, alerts and two-way conversations with customers. Inbound messages can go to Amazon SNS, EventBridge or Kinesis. Notify for one-time codes and SMS Protect, which validates numbers and detects fraud, are part of it. It is used through APIs and the AWS console. The SMS capabilities were previously part of Amazon Pinpoint; AWS ends support for Pinpoint on 30 October 2026, while the SMS APIs continue under the new name.
AWS is part of Amazon.com, Inc., headquartered in the United States. The service is available in several European AWS regions, including Frankfurt, Ireland, Paris, Stockholm and Zurich, and the customer chooses the region. According to AWS, its data processing addendum applies standard contractual clauses automatically for transfers to countries without an adequacy decision. Because the provider is US-based, the CLOUD Act may also reach data stored in Europe. Phone numbers and message content therefore call for a deliberate choice of region.
