CartoGuide (Vido): sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

CartoGuide, called Vido in its code, is a web application with an interactive map for points of interest. It combines OpenStreetMap data with your own business data, for example from tourism information systems or GIS. Visitors can search, filter categories, keep favourites, view place sheets and follow routes. The application is optimised for mobile and is aimed at municipalities, tourist offices and other regional bodies. It runs as a web front end on top of a data API that you install yourself or have installed for you.

CartoGuide is developed and deployed by Teritorio, a French company in Bordeaux focused on open-source mapping solutions built on OpenStreetMap. The Vido source code is on GitHub under the GNU AGPL v3 licence. Because you can host the application yourself, you decide where map data and visitor traffic end up, for example within the EU. Teritorio provides deployment as part of project support. Operations, updates and security of your own installation are the responsibility of your organisation or your implementation partner.
