Developers integrate the APIs into any website or mobile app and can create their own map style or pick one from the style library. The service builds on the work of the OpenStreetMap community and is delivered as a hosted service.

Jawg is based in France, in Bagneux, and is part of Takima. According to its privacy policy, Jawg acts as a processor for the personal data that subscribers submit through the service. The company says it hosts its services in partnership with OVH, a European hosting provider, spread across several data centres. The service itself is not open source and has no self-hosting option.
