Magic Earth is a navigation app from Magic Lane, available for iOS and Android and, according to the company, for cars running Android Automotive OS. It provides routing for car, pedestrian, bike, e-bike, public transport and truck, with vehicle dimensions for truck routes. It includes 3D maps, real-time traffic based on contributions from drivers, support for CarPlay and Apple Watch, and offline maps for more than 200 countries and regions. Map data comes from OpenStreetMap. Magic Lane also supplies navigation platforms for developers.
Magic Lane International B.V. is headquartered in Amsterdam, with an R&D centre in Brașov, Romania. Magic Earth is not open source. The company states that the app does not collect personal data, track location or profile users, and that location data never leaves European legal jurisdiction. These are the vendor's own statements and no independent audit was found. For European organisations, the offline operation is relevant because it reduces dependence on external services.
