Cognee is an open-source memory and knowledge engine for AI agents. It turns documents and other data into a searchable knowledge graph so that agents can remember and retrieve context across sessions. The core is a Python package under the Apache 2.0 licence. In addition there is Cognee Cloud, a managed service on the major cloud platforms, and a bring-your-own-cloud option for enterprises. It is a European alternative to US agent-memory layers such as Mem0.
Topoteretes UG (haftungsbeschränkt) in Berlin is the publisher, and its Impressum also lists an office in San Francisco. Local use keeps data entirely within your own infrastructure. Cognee Cloud runs on AWS, GCP or Azure, but the regions are not named. A data processing agreement is available on request, and according to the company its data protection processes are aligned with the GDPR together with heyData, which is not a certification. No owner or parent company outside Europe is stated.
