CoMaps is a free map and navigation app that works without an internet connection, for hiking, cycling and driving. It offers offline search, routing and voice-guided turn-by-turn directions, uses open data from sources such as OpenStreetMap and Wikipedia, and is available for Android and iOS, with an experimental Qt version. It can be installed through F-Droid, Flathub and the usual app stores.
CoMaps is a community-led fork of Organic Maps, developed as a not-for-profit project that has no legal entity of its own; its finances run through a fiscal host on Open Collective, and the choice of legal form is still pending. No company with a fixed headquarters therefore stands behind the app. The source code is on Codeberg under the Apache-2.0 licence, and development is supported partly through NLnet's NGI0 Commons Fund. Because maps are stored on the device, navigation does not require sending data to a central map service.
