EfficientIP SOLIDserver: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

With SOLIDserver, EfficientIP offers a DDI platform for managing DNS, DHCP and IP address management (IPAM) together, covering IPv4, IPv6 and VLANs. The platform manages DNS and DHCP services from several vendors, including Microsoft, ISC BIND and cloud services from AWS, Azure and Google, and connects through APIs to automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible. EfficientIP also sells DNS security products, such as DNS Guardian and DNS Firewall. SOLIDserver is delivered as a physical or virtual appliance for platforms including VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix and OpenStack, and in public clouds.

EfficientIP is headquartered in Paris. In June 2026 the US investment firm Francisco Partners, which has offices in San Francisco among other places, acquired the company from its founders and minority investors; the founders reinvested. The ultimate owner is therefore in the United States, which is a CLOUD Act signal. The software is not open source. Because SOLIDserver can run in your own environment, you can manage the data yourself, but control over the vendor sits outside Europe.

Why digital sovereignty matters with EfficientIP SOLIDserver

EfficientIP SOLIDserver is headquartered in FR and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data. The ultimate owner is based in US. Foreign control undermines part of the certainty a European headquarters offers.

EfficientIP SOLIDserver runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

EfficientIP SOLIDserver is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs EfficientIP SOLIDserver together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
