Hirschmann makes industrial Ethernet switches, wireless devices and firewalls for factory and process-automation networks. Its Industrial HiVision software detects, configures and monitors network devices, including SNMP-enabled equipment from several vendors. The hardware runs on the customer's own premises, and the sources reviewed describe no vendor-operated cloud service for these products.
Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH, which runs the Hirschmann business, is headquartered in Neckartenzlingen, Germany. It has been owned by the US company Belden, headquartered in St. Louis, since its acquisition in 2007. The ultimate parent is therefore in the United States, and that US ownership link should be taken into account. Because networks run locally, data residency concerns are limited, but European organisations should still assess the vendor's support and firmware channels. The products are proprietary and not open source.
