Embrace: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Embrace is a user-focused observability platform for mobile and web apps, built on OpenTelemetry. For mobile it automatically captures crashes, ANRs, network issues and performance metrics. For web it covers exceptions with error grouping, Core Web Vitals, user journeys, and synthetic monitoring. SDKs are available for Android, iOS, web, React Native, Unity and Flutter, and data can be sent to destinations such as Grafana. Embrace is delivered as an SDK in the app plus a hosted platform.

Embrace is a US company, Embrace Mobile, Inc. Its website reports that Palo Alto Networks, also a US company, has completed the acquisition of Embrace, so US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act, applies. When creating an app you choose a data location, either the United States or the European Union, and the choice cannot be changed later. Customer data is stored in the selected region, while account and billing information is hosted in the US and replicated to that region. Embrace relies on Amazon Web Services. It is a commercial platform, not open source.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Embrace

Embrace is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Embrace hosts data in US, EU. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Embrace is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Embrace together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
