Bugfender: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Bugfender is a remote logging and error monitoring tool for mobile and frontend developers. It collects logs, errors and crashes directly from user devices, including when an app does not crash. A dashboard presents the data per device, with stack traces, automatic symbolication and device information. An in-app feedback form with contextual data is also included. Bugfender is integrated as an SDK, covering iOS, Android, React Native, Flutter, JavaScript, Angular, React and Vue among others, and is consumed as a cloud service.

According to its privacy policy, Beenario GmbH of Walldorf, Germany, owns the service and acts as controller. Data storage is provided by Wasabi Technologies, Inc., "with data storage in the EU"; incident reporting uses Statuspage.io from Dogwood Labs, Inc. The service therefore has a German contracting party and EU storage, but relies on US suppliers for storage and incident communication. The website does not mention an open-source edition or self-hosting.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Bugfender

Bugfender is headquartered in DE and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Bugfender scores best on data residency.

Bugfender is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Bugfender together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
