Emmabuntüs is a GNU/Linux distribution based on Debian, with the Xfce and LXQt desktop environments. It is designed to simplify the reinstallation of used computers donated to humanitarian associations, to help beginners discover Linux and to extend the life of hardware. The distribution ships with a broad set of preinstalled software. The current series, Emmabuntüs DE6, is built on Debian 13 and is downloaded as an ISO image and installed on your own computer.
Emmabuntüs is developed by a collective, an informal group of people without a legal entity. The project grew out of the Emmaüs community in Neuilly-Plaisance, France, and its website is in French. There is no cloud offering: you install and manage the distribution yourself, so your data stays on your own device. The distribution is free software and is listed in Comptoir du Libre, the French public-sector software catalogue. According to the project, it is used by associations in France and Africa for reusing computers.
