Esaote designs, produces, sells and maintains medical diagnostic equipment. Its offering has three areas: ultrasound systems (the MyLab range, with probes and clinical solutions for specialties such as urology, cardiovascular care and obstetrics), open magnetic resonance systems, and healthcare IT software through its Ebit subsidiary. The software covers cardiovascular information systems, enterprise imaging such as PACS, VNA and RIS, and an AI-based platform. The products are used in clinical diagnostics and imaging, mainly as equipment supplied with software.
Esaote is based in Genoa, Italy, and was founded in 1982. Since 2018 it has been owned by a consortium of Chinese medical technology companies and investment funds, so its ultimate parent sits outside the EU. In 2017 the company said it would keep research and development and manufacturing in Italy and the Netherlands. The pages consulted do not describe how or where the healthcare IT software is hosted, so a European organisation should ask which hosting provider and location apply to its contract. The products are proprietary and not open source.
