Esup-Pod is an open-source platform for managing and distributing video files, designed for teaching and research. Users upload videos, which are encoded and published; subtitles, chapters, indexing, playlists and live streaming are also supported. The software is multilingual, supports multiple tenants and connects to local accounts, CAS, OpenID and Shibboleth. It is installed as server software, including as a Docker setup.
The project began in 2014 at the Université de Lille and has been steered since September 2015 by the French ESUP-Portail consortium, with support from the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research. The code is licensed under LGPL-3.0. Institutions can run Esup-Pod on their own servers, so videos and user data stay in their own environment. Through ESUP-Portail, French universities also offer a hosted variant to other institutions.
