Evidence is a business intelligence tool that treats analytics as code. Reports and dashboards are written in Markdown with SQL queries and components such as charts, filters, tables and maps, and they are managed with Git, including push-to-deploy, branch previews and rollback. Beyond the open-source core, Evidence offers Evidence Studio, a hosted editor and publishing service, as well as embedded analytics, scheduled emails and PDF or Excel exports. Data teams use it to build reporting that is versioned and reviewed like software.
Evidence is developed by a company based in Toronto, Canada, and is licensed under the MIT licence. Because the open-source core produces a static site, you can self-host the result on your own infrastructure and keep reports and data entirely under your control. The hosted Evidence Studio is operated by a non-European provider, and the hosting location of that service is not stated on the vendor's site, so a European organisation that uses it should confirm where data is processed before relying on it.
