Gemini Code Assist is Google's AI coding assistant for software teams. It works inside VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Android Studio and Cloud Shell Editor, and offers code completion and generation, chat about open files, and an agent mode for multi-step tasks using MCP servers. The Standard and Enterprise editions are managed through Google Cloud; Enterprise adds customisation based on private repositories. According to Google's documentation, new subscriptions are no longer available for purchase.
Google is a US company, so the service falls under US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act. For customer data Google acts as processor under the Cloud Data Processing Addendum, and it states that it does not use that data to train its models without permission. Requests are typically processed at the data centre closest to where they originate; Google says regionality is not guaranteed. Organisations that need processing exclusively in the EU should take this into account.
