Google Classroom is a class management service for schools. Teachers can create classes, post assignments and announcements, share materials and grade work. It is part of Google Workspace for Education and is delivered as a cloud service in a web browser and in apps.
Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, is a Delaware corporation whose principal executive offices are in Mountain View, California. US law, including the CLOUD Act, can therefore apply to data under Google's control, wherever it is stored. Data regions for the Standard and Plus editions let administrators keep certain primary Classroom data at rest in the EU. Other data may be processed wherever Google and its sub-processors operate. Google publishes a data processing addendum with GDPR obligations. The service is not open source and cannot be self-hosted.
