imapsync is a command-line tool that copies IMAP mailboxes from one server to another, incrementally and recursively, to migrate or back up accounts. You can stop a transfer at any time and resume it later without creating duplicates. The tool runs on Windows, Linux and macOS and is used by administrators when moving between mail providers or mail servers. imapsync does not migrate contacts or calendars, and it is not meant for two-way synchronisation.
The tool is developed and maintained by an independent developer in France. The source code is on GitHub under the NO LIMIT PUBLIC LICENSE, which permits any use but is not an OSI-approved licence. If you run imapsync yourself, mail data flows between your servers and your own machine rather than through the developer. The developer also operates an online imapsync service and sells paid builds with support; the hosting location of that online service is not stated. The latest release published on the site is 2.314 from September 2025.
