Kyutai is a Paris-based open-science AI research lab that publishes models and code. Its projects include Moshi, a speech-text foundation model for full-duplex spoken dialogue; Unmute, which gives text language models a real-time voice using Kyutai's speech-to-text and text-to-speech models; and Helium, a multilingual language model. Kyutai is a research lab rather than a hosted service: developers download the models and run them themselves.
The lab is based in Paris, France, and names Iliad Group, CMA CGM Group and Schmidt Sciences among its funders; no foreign parent is stated. In the Moshi repository the Python code and web client are MIT-licensed, the Rust backend uses the Apache licence and the model weights are released under CC-BY 4.0. Because the models can run on infrastructure the user controls, a European organisation can keep prompts, audio and outputs inside its own EU environment.
