Luminar Neo is a photo-editing application from Skylum with AI-assisted tools. It offers AI image enhancement, retouching and portrait tools, sky replacement, and generative features such as GenErase, GenExpand and GenSwap, alongside RAW editing, layers, masking and batch processing. It runs on macOS and Windows, as a standalone application or a plug-in, and is downloaded from the user's account. It is proprietary software for amateur and professional photographers.
Skylum, formerly Macphun, was founded in 2008 in Ukraine, and press reports describe its development team as Kyiv-based, with staff now working from various places in Ukraine and abroad. Ukraine is not an EU member state. Luminar Neo is not open source. The product page does not say whether individual AI features process images on the device or in the cloud, or where any cloud processing happens. A European organisation handling confidential or personal images should check Skylum's privacy terms for the controller, processing locations and transfers before using the generative features.
