mailcow (mailcow: dockerized) is an open source groupware and mail server suite that you install and run yourself. Each service runs in its own Docker container, including Postfix and Dovecot for mail transport and IMAP/POP, Rspamd for spam filtering, optional ClamAV, and SOGo for webmail with CalDAV and CardDAV. A web interface lets you create domains and mailboxes. Further features include DKIM, two-factor authentication (TOTP, WebAuthn, Yubikey), a quarantine system and imapsync for migrating mailboxes. It is intended for administrators, businesses and organisations that want to operate their own mail server.
The project is maintained by The Infrastructure Company GmbH in Willich, Germany, which also holds the word mark. mailcow's own code is released under the GPL-3.0; bundled components carry their own licences. Because you install the software on your own servers or with a hoster of your choice, you decide where the data resides and who can access it. Paid support is available through Servercow. For a European organisation this is a self-hosting option from a German developer, with no dependency on an external cloud service.
