Rhino is a telecom application server from Alianza for developing and running carrier-grade network services. Rhino TAS supports SIP, Diameter, SS7 and REST. Rhino SIP Servlet is a SIP Servlet 1.1 container, Sentinel VoLTE provides IMS-based VoLTE services, and Rhino VoLTE TAS is a telephony application server available as VM images. Rhino Element Manager offers web-based management, and Sentinel Express includes an SDK for building services.
Rhino was developed by Metaswitch, which Microsoft owned until Alianza completed its acquisition on 4 March 2025. Alianza is a US company; its announcements are datelined Pleasant Grove, Utah. Because Rhino is delivered as software for operators, where it runs and where subscriber data is processed depends on the operator's deployment. A European operator should weigh the vendor's US ownership when agreeing support, updates and access.
