Microsoft Copilot Cowork is an agentic feature of Microsoft 365 Copilot for long-running, multi-step work. Users describe the outcome; Cowork builds a plan, runs it across Microsoft 365 applications and returns a result, continuing in the cloud even when the user's device is off. It draws on organisational context through Work IQ and was built with Anthropic's Claude technology; at general availability it runs on Anthropic models. A Microsoft 365 Copilot licence is required, and Cowork is off by default until an administrator enables it.
Microsoft is headquartered in Redmond, Washington, USA. According to Microsoft, Cowork operates within the Microsoft 365 trust boundary. Microsoft documents that Anthropic models in its Copilot offerings are currently excluded from the EU Data Boundary; for EU, EFTA and UK tenants they are off by default and an administrator must opt in. The pages reviewed state no processing location for Cowork itself, so check this before enabling it.
