Min: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Min is a fast, minimal web browser focused on privacy and organisation. Tabs take little space and older pages fade out, Focus Mode hides other tabs, and Tasks group tabs. It blocks most ads and trackers, offers an automatic reader view, lets you search the full text of visited pages with the index kept on your device, supports bookmark tagging and integrates with password managers. The search bar can show DuckDuckGo answers. Min is a desktop application for Windows, macOS, Linux and Raspberry Pi, not a hosted service.

Min is open source under the Apache-2.0 licence; its code is written in JavaScript and published on GitHub under the minbrowser organisation. The project says it does not share your browsing history. Because the browser runs on your own device and the source is public, European organisations can inspect it, build it themselves and decide which search engine and services it connects to. It is community maintained, so organisations that need guaranteed support or central management should check whether it meets their requirements.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Min

Min is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Min scores best on data residency.

Min is open source. You can audit the source code, self-host the software and keep the encryption keys under your own control. Switching is easier because data and software are not tied to a single party.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Min together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
