Minox: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Minox is a Dutch online accounting package for accountancy and bookkeeping firms and for entrepreneurs. It automates the booking of purchases, sales and bank transactions, lets customers file their VAT return digitally, and offers modules for sales and payments, management reporting, cost analysis and fixed assets. Accountants get a central dashboard with alerts and can work free of charge in their clients' administrations. There are links with banks, payment providers, webshops and ERP and payroll tools. Minox is available as a web application, and on-premise versions also exist.

According to its privacy statement, data for Minox Online is stored with Amazon Web Services and data for the Minox ERP cloud with Google Cloud, both on servers in Europe, and no data is transferred to countries outside the EU. Both providers are US companies, and Minox acknowledges that access by US authorities cannot be ruled out in every case. The package is not open source.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Minox

Minox is headquartered in NL and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Minox scores best on data residency.

Minox is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Minox together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
