Pluxee: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Pluxee is an employee-benefits and engagement provider. On its French website it offers meal vouchers and a restaurant card, gift vouchers, CESU vouchers for home services and childcare, a mobility benefit for commuting, and holiday and culture vouchers. Employers such as small businesses, HR managers and works councils buy the benefits, employees use them, and merchants can join the acceptance network.

Pluxee was spun off from Sodexo, which separated its employee-benefits business into a standalone company, and has been listed on Euronext Paris since 1 February 2024. It is organised as a Dutch holding company whose place of effective management is in France. The Bellon family, Sodexo's majority shareholder, remains the controlling shareholder through Bellon SA, which the company calls its ultimate controlling entity, so there is no non-European parent. Pluxee's public pages do not state where customer data is hosted. A European organisation should ask for the hosting region and the sub-processors. The service is proprietary and not open source.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Pluxee

Pluxee is headquartered in FR and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Pluxee scores best on data residency.

Pluxee is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Pluxee together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
