Quire: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Quire is a task and project management tool built around unlimited nested task lists, which break a goal down step by step. It also offers Kanban boards, a Gantt-style timeline, a calendar, a shared document space, reports based on task and time data, custom fields and templates. It supports Agile and Scrum methods, and outside teams and clients can collaborate through shared links. Quire is delivered as a web app, with apps for iOS and Android.

Quire is built by Potix Corporation, a company based in Taiwan that also develops the ZK Java web framework. According to its privacy policy, information is stored and processed in the United States and Taiwan. Quire is not open source. For a European organisation it is therefore a non-European provider with no stated European storage location; data transfers outside the EU should be covered contractually before you put personal data into projects.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Quire

Quire is headquartered in TW, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor.

Quire hosts data outside the EU (US, OTHER). Personal data therefore leaves the EU, which requires a transfer mechanism under the GDPR and pulls the data residency score down.

Quire is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Quire together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
