Rowboat is an open-source AI coworker from Rowboat Labs, a company from Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch. Its main product is a desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux that builds a linked knowledge graph from email, meetings, Slack and assistant conversations. Using that context, Rowboat drafts replies, prepares meetings and runs background agents. The app also includes a built-in browser, local meeting notes and support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for adding custom tools.
The software is released under the Apache-2.0 licence. Personal data is stored locally as plain Markdown files on your own machine, and Rowboat works with local models through Ollama or LM Studio, or with hosted models using your own API key. Shared Spaces run on a hosted server or on a self-hosted Harbor server. For a European organisation, the choice of model and server therefore largely determines where data ends up.
