Rydoo: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Rydoo is an expense-management platform for the finance teams of multinational companies. Employees capture receipts in a mobile app or on the desktop, after which policy rules and approvals are applied automatically. The platform also includes virtual and physical corporate cards with card reconciliation, per diem and mileage management, reimbursements, an AI-based review of expense claims (Smart Audit) and an AI policy assistant. It connects to Egencia for business travel and to SAP, and offers more than 35 integrations with finance, ERP, HR and travel tools. Rydoo is delivered as a cloud service with web and mobile apps.

According to Rydoo's security page, all data entered into the application is stored in Microsoft Azure data centres located in the EU; specific regions are not named. The vendor reports ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2 and PCI DSS, with encryption in transit and at rest. Rydoo is headquartered in Belgium; in 2024 Eurazeo announced it would become majority shareholder. The software is not open source and there is no self-hosting option. Microsoft acts as infrastructure subprocessor.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Rydoo

Rydoo is headquartered in BE and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Rydoo scores best on data residency.

Rydoo is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Rydoo together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
