Sembly AI: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Sembly AI is a meeting assistant that transcribes and summarises calls in real time in Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and other platforms. Beyond notes, it turns meeting material and background documents into proposals, pitch decks, statements of work and status reports, exported as editable Office files in the client's brand. The contact address of Sembly AI, Inc. is in New York.

Sovereignty depends on jurisdiction and storage location. Users in the EU can have their data stored in data centres within the EEA, while the privacy policy implies US storage for other users. The company states compliance with the EU-US Data Privacy Framework but acknowledges that some EU data may be processed outside the EEA. No parent company is named. Choose EU storage where it is available, and check the data processing agreement and sub-processors before use.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Sembly AI

Sembly AI is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Sembly AI hosts data in EU, US. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Sembly AI is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Sembly AI together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
