Siril is software for processing astronomical images, aimed at amateur astronomers and researchers. It calibrates raw frames with bias, dark and flat files, aligns multiple images, stacks them to improve the signal-to-noise ratio, and then offers tools to refine the result. Siril runs as a desktop application on Linux, Windows and macOS, and also comes in a variant without a graphical interface for scripting.
Siril is developed by the free-astro community and released under the GPL (version 3 or later). There is no identifiable legal entity: the source code lives on GitLab and managed by the development team. According to the paper about the software in the Journal of Open Source Software, three of its four authors are based in France and one in the United Kingdom. The software runs entirely on your own computer, so your images stay with you. No vendor platform is required, and the source code is free to inspect and modify.
