digiKam is an open-source photo management application from the KDE project. It organises photos, raw files and videos into albums, imports from cameras and storage devices, and offers tags, ratings and labels as well as search on Exif, IPTC and XMP metadata. Raw formats are read through LibRaw and videos through FFmpeg. For editing there are colour adjustments, cropping, sharpening, panoramas and lens correction, with versioned edits. Data is stored in SQLite or MariaDB, and plugins extend it. digiKam runs locally on Linux, Windows and macOS under the GPL-2.0-or-later licence.
digiKam is developed by the digiKam team within the KDE community. KDE e.V., a German non-profit association, acts as KDE's legal and financial representative. There is no foreign parent company. Uploading photos to web services such as Google Photos relies on third-party services, and the privacy policy does not state where that feature processes data. For a European organisation, the photo collection stays on its own systems unless it chooses external services.
