Pitivi is a free, open-source video editor for Linux. It is non-linear and built on the GStreamer multimedia framework through GStreamer Editing Services. Release notes mention auto alignment of clips, precise audio waveforms, object tracking, beat detection, clip properties and clip tagging in the media library. It aims to be the default video editor for the GNOME desktop and is installed as a desktop application, so editing takes place on your own machine. The project documents a user manual and accepts donations.
Pitivi is a community project hosted on GNOME's GitLab and licensed under the LGPL-2.1-or-later, so the source code is open. It was started in 2003 by Edward Hervey in Paris and is now maintained by the Pitivi development team and the GNOME project, with support from Collabora. There is no commercial vendor owning the product, no vendor-run cloud service and no foreign parent company. The most recent release listed on the project site is 2023.03 from 2023, so organisations should check how actively the project is maintained before relying on it.
