SocketLabs: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

SocketLabs is an email delivery and analytics platform for companies and software providers that send email at high volume. It offers an SMTP service and an injection API for sending, a platform API for management and reporting, and analytics tools such as Spotlight, StreamMonitor and StreamScore that monitor sending streams and deliverability, including at other providers through connectors for services such as SendGrid, Bird, Mailgun and Amazon SES. It also provides a rule engine for routing mail, subaccounts and user permissions, and an on-premises mail transfer agent, Hurricane MTA.

SocketLabs is a US company with a team based in Pennsylvania. In July 2026 the Croatian cloud communications company Infobip announced its acquisition of SocketLabs; terms were not disclosed. Ultimate ownership therefore sits in Croatia, an EU member state, while the operating company is based in the United States. The sources consulted do not state where SocketLabs hosts customer data, so European organisations should ask for hosting locations and processing terms in writing. The platform is proprietary.

Why digital sovereignty matters with SocketLabs

SocketLabs is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model. The ultimate owner is based in HR, also within Europe.

SocketLabs hosts data outside the EU (US). Personal data therefore leaves the EU, which requires a transfer mechanism under the GDPR and pulls the data residency score down.

SocketLabs is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs SocketLabs together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
