Statsig: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Statsig is a product development platform for testing how releases perform with customers. It combines experimentation, feature management with feature gates, product analytics, session replay, web analytics and warehouse-native analysis, which runs experiments in the customer's own Snowflake, BigQuery or Databricks. SDKs exist for many languages and frameworks, including React, Node.js, Python, Swift, Android and Go. Teams use it through a web console. It is delivered as SaaS.

Statsig lists Bellevue, Washington, as its location. In September 2025 it announced that its team would join OpenAI; in May 2026 Amplitude, a US company headquartered in San Francisco, took over the Statsig product, brand and customers, while the original team stayed at OpenAI. Statsig's site now says it is part of the Amplitude family, and its privacy page redirects to Amplitude's, which states that personal data may be transferred to the United States under standard contractual clauses and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Statsig's public documentation describes no selectable EU hosting region. The warehouse-native setup can keep analysis data in a warehouse the organisation controls.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Statsig

Statsig is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Statsig hosts data outside the EU (US). Personal data therefore leaves the EU, which requires a transfer mechanism under the GDPR and pulls the data residency score down.

Statsig is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Statsig together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
