Wilma is the web interface of Finnish school administration systems. Pupils, teachers, guardians and other school staff use it to follow courses, grades and absences, record assessments, read announcements and communicate with one another. The licence is held by the educational institution, and the web interface gives access to that institution's administrative system. It is a web service opened in a browser.
The Wilma trademark is registered to Visma Aquila Oy, a Finnish company within the Visma group. Visma's website states that the group's headquarters are in Oslo, Norway. The vendor's public pages do not name a current majority owner, do not say where Wilma data is hosted, and do not state whether the software is open source. A school or municipality considering Wilma should therefore ask the operator for its hosting location, sub-processors and ownership, and check the processing terms before any rollout.
