Control-M is BMC's workload automation product. It orchestrates workflows and jobs across applications and platforms from a single point of control: batch processing, data pipelines across multi-cloud and on-premises environments, managed file transfer and, according to BMC, AI agents. It is aimed at enterprises, including in financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, the public sector and telecommunications. Control-M is available as self-managed software, as a container and, since 2020, as SaaS.
BMC Software is headquartered in Houston, Texas, and is owned by the US investment firm KKR, which acquired BMC in 2018. Control-M SaaS runs in Amazon Web Services regions, including Ireland, the US, Canada and Sydney, so European customers can use an EU region. With self-managed use, you decide where the software and job data reside. The product is not open source. A US vendor with a US owner remains subject to foreign legislation even with an EU region; self-managed operation gives the most control.
