Rudder is an infrastructure automation platform for IT operations and security teams. It covers security configuration management, patch and vulnerability management, and compliance checks against benchmarks such as CIS, NIST and ISO 27001. A central server, optional relays and a lightweight agent on each system continuously compare configurations with defined policies and can report or correct drift. It manages Linux and Windows systems in cloud, hybrid and on-premises environments, with a web interface and a REST API. Customers install and operate it themselves.
Rudder is developed by Normation, a software publisher founded in 2010 and based in Paris, France. The core is free software under the GPLv3, with a licence exception that lets plugins use any licence; the complete solution is only partly open source, and an enterprise version with additional paid modules is offered. Since you run Rudder on your own infrastructure, your hosting choices determine where inventory and compliance data is stored.
