ChromeOS Flex is an operating system from Google that can be installed on existing PCs and Macs as a cloud-first replacement for Windows or macOS. Installation is done with a bootable USB drive or with a package that can be rolled out through management tools such as Group Policy, Intune or SCCM. Devices are managed through the Google Admin console. According to Google, updates follow the same release cycle as ChromeOS, and only certified hardware models are officially supported.
ChromeOS Flex is a proprietary product of Google LLC, headquartered in the United States, and is therefore subject to US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act. The system is installed locally on your own devices, but it is designed around Google accounts, profile synchronisation and management from the Google cloud. For data processing, the product page refers only to Google's privacy policy and names no hosting regions or data processing agreement. This deserves attention from European organisations that want to reduce their dependence on US services.
