Déjà Dup is a simple backup tool for the GNOME desktop, aimed at recovering from accidental loss of personal data. It uses Restic behind the scenes, compresses and encrypts data before it is backed up, and makes incremental backups so that you can restore from any particular backup. Backups can be scheduled and written to local drives, network servers or cloud services. You install it on your own Linux desktop, for example via Flathub.
Déjà Dup is free software released under the GPL-3.0-or-later and developed in the open as a GNOME project. It is not a hosted service: the software runs on your own device, and your data ends up wherever you point the backup, be it a disk you control, a server of your own or a cloud provider. The sovereignty of a backup therefore depends on the storage target you choose; with an EU-based target or your own hardware, no non-European provider is involved.
