Dropbox Sign, formerly known as HelloSign, is an electronic signature service for sending, signing and tracking documents online. Organisations use it for contracts, HR paperwork and approvals. It offers reusable templates, signing in the browser and integrations through an API, and it is delivered as a cloud service.
Dropbox Sign is operated by Dropbox, Inc., a US company headquartered in San Francisco, California, and is therefore subject to US law, including the CLOUD Act. This matters for European organisations that send personal or confidential contracts through it. The product is not open source and cannot be self-hosted. Dropbox's data residency documentation states that the default storage region for all plans is the United States, and that Premium plans can choose an EU region for at-rest documents. Processing still takes place partly on US servers, where temporary copies of documents are moved. Organisations should check the data processing terms before relying on the EU option.
