Elsa Workflows is an open-source workflow engine for .NET applications. Its libraries run long-running, event-driven and scheduled processes inside a .NET application, and the project also provides a server and a visual Studio designer that can be deployed from a Docker image. Workflows can be defined in code, in JSON or in the visual designer. The software is licensed under the MIT licence.
The project is hosted on GitHub under the elsa-workflows organisation and is listed as a project of the .NET Foundation, a 501(c)(6) non-profit organisation. The vendor also offers optional paid products and services under the name Elsa+. Because the libraries run on the organisation's own infrastructure, it decides where workflows and their data are stored. The project pages mention no hosted service and no GDPR or data processing commitment.
