ARIS: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

ARIS is a process context platform that combines process mining, process modelling, simulation, workflow orchestration and governance. It also includes an ARIS Digital Twin, a continuously updated view of how an organisation works. According to the vendor, it targets large organisations moving from isolated AI pilots to governed, enterprise-scale use of AI agents, with rules, checks and controls on what those agents do. Software AG describes ARIS as cloud-native SaaS for process modelling and process mining.

The provider is SAG ARIS GmbH, with its statutory seat in Saarbrücken, Germany. ARIS has operated as a standalone business since early 2025; its parent company is Software GmbH, the holding entity of the Software AG group, which is owned by the investment firm Silver Lake. The software is not open source. In June 2026 ARIS announced itself as a launch partner for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, to support customers within that cloud's EU data residency and governance boundaries. Ask the vendor in which region your environment runs.

Why digital sovereignty matters with ARIS

ARIS is headquartered in DE and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data. The ultimate owner is based in US. Foreign control undermines part of the certainty a European headquarters offers.

ARIS hosts data in EU, US. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

ARIS is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs ARIS together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
