Cyso Cloud: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Cyso Cloud is a Dutch cloud provider that grew out of Fuga Cloud; since 1 January 2025 the platform has operated under the Cyso Cloud name. It offers virtual machines, object storage, managed Kubernetes, load balancers, DNS and a transactional email service, along with managed operations, migration and cybersecurity support. The platform is based on OpenStack. The services are consumed as a hosted cloud and are aimed at organisations that want infrastructure from a Dutch provider.

Cyso Cloud is based in the Netherlands, with an office in Alkmaar, and belongs to the Cyso Group. According to its website, its data centres are in Europe. The sources consulted name no foreign parent company. Cyso Cloud stresses open source as one of its principles and also offers its OpenStack platform to data centres that want to launch their own public or private cloud services. For a European organisation this means infrastructure from a provider based in the Netherlands, under Dutch and European law.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Cyso Cloud

Cyso Cloud is headquartered in NL and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Cyso Cloud scores best on data residency.

Cyso Cloud is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Cyso Cloud together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
