Forminit: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Forminit, known as Getform.io until January 2026, is a headless form backend for developers. It handles form submissions, file uploads, email notifications, webhooks and integrations, so you do not need to build a backend of your own. It works with React, Next.js, Vue, Angular and plain HTML forms, and offers spam protection, integrations with Zapier, Slack and Discord, and a protected mode using API keys. Forminit is a hosted service; it has no form builder and no self-hosting option. The code is not open source.

Forminit is operated by UXPLUS LTD in London, United Kingdom, so outside the EU. According to its security page, the service runs on Amazon Web Services and stores submissions, uploads and backups in the Ireland region. The company acts as processor, offers a data processing agreement and says it follows the GDPR and the UK GDPR. Deleted submissions expire from backups within 35 days. For a European organisation, the data therefore sits in the EU, with a UK provider.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Forminit

Forminit is headquartered in GB, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Forminit scores best on data residency.

Forminit is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Forminit together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
