GitHub Issues and GitHub Projects form the planning and issue-tracking layer of GitHub. Issues are built into every repository and offer sub-issues, labels, milestones, assignees and references to commits, pull requests and releases. Projects adds table, board and roadmap views on top, with custom fields, iterations, templates and workflow automation. The service runs as a cloud service on github.com, with mobile apps, a command-line client and a version for GitHub Enterprise Server.
GitHub is headquartered in the United States and is a subsidiary of Microsoft, so US laws such as the CLOUD Act can apply. By default, data on github.com is stored in the US. With GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency, an organisation can choose the EU region (Azure regions in Norway and Switzerland), Australia, the US or Japan. GitHub's data protection agreement relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses for transfers outside the EU. Check these options before storing sensitive project data.
