Librem Mail is the email service in the Librem One subscription from Purism, a US company focused on privacy. You receive an address on librem.one and can email people both inside and outside that domain. The service uses standard protocols (SMTP, IMAP and POP), supports OpenPGP encryption, carries no advertising and works with compatible mail clients, including an Android app based on K-9 Mail. According to the vendor, unencrypted mail is deleted after 30 days. It is a SaaS service included only in the paid Complete bundle.
Purism is a Social Purpose Corporation headquartered in San Francisco, California, so it is a US provider subject to US law. Its services run on PureOS, Purism's own operating system, and the client apps are free software. The server software of the mail service is not described as open source. According to Purism, self-hosting is also possible for those who want to run their own mail server. For a European organisation this is a non-European provider without a stated European data location.
