Microsoft Purview is a set of solutions for governing, protecting and managing data across an organisation, including data used with AI. It covers data security (data loss prevention, information protection, insider risk management), data governance (the Data Map and the Unified Catalog) and data compliance (audit, eDiscovery, records management, communication compliance and Compliance Manager). Administrators work in the Microsoft Purview portal, and the service is delivered from Microsoft's cloud.
Microsoft is headquartered in Redmond, Washington, and is subject to US law, including the CLOUD Act. The Unified Catalog is deployed in Azure regions, among them France Central, Germany West Central, Switzerland North, Sweden Central, North Europe and West Europe. Microsoft's EU Data Boundary commits to storing and processing customer data for enterprise online services such as Azure, Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365 in the EU and EFTA; Microsoft's Purview pages do not state whether it covers every Purview solution, so confirm coverage per solution. The product is not open source.
