Data Contract CLI: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Data Contract CLI is an open-source command-line tool, written in Python, for working with data contracts. It builds on the Open Data Contract Standard and lets data teams lint contracts, compare versions, detect breaking changes and test schemas and quality rules against live data sources such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Kafka and PostgreSQL. It can import and export many formats, including SQL, Avro, JSON Schema and dbt models. It runs standalone, in CI/CD pipelines, as a Python library or as a Docker image.

The software is released under the MIT licence and is installed and run by the user, so it is not a hosted service; where data is processed depends on the systems you connect it to. The project was created by Stefan Negele, Jochen Christ and Simon Harrer. A commercial platform for managing data contracts, Entropy Data, is listed on the project site as a related tool. Because the source code is open, a European organisation can inspect the tool and run it entirely within its own infrastructure.
